What initially appeared to be ordinary back pain had become a serious limitation on the mobility of a 50-year-old woman, leading her on a long search for a solution to end her persistent suffering.
Dr. Hussam Al-Anbari, a specialist in neurosurgery and spine surgery, explained that detailed examinations revealed severe lumbar spinal canal stenosis along with a spinal deformity. The curvature was not congenital or related to childhood; rather, it had developed as a result of advanced degenerative changes, which progressively caused vertebral deviation and worsening of the patient’s condition with age.
The patient underwent a complex surgical procedure lasting approximately three and a half hours. The operation involved correction and stabilization of the spine using 14 medical screws, placed from the 12th thoracic vertebra (T12) to the first sacral vertebra (S1).
The procedure also included decompression of the nerve roots, with the aim of relieving the pressure responsible for the patient’s pain and restoring her mobility and spinal alignment.
